A tunnel for flying

The tunnel more than three kilometres long to extend Line 2 of Barcelona’s commuter rail suburban train network to terminal T1 of El Prat Airport is now a reality. In December 2018, tunnel boring under the airfield at a depth of 20 metres was completed. Having drafted the project in 2009, Ineco is now managing the works, which include a new intermodal station currently under construction in terminal T2. The company is also drafting the project for the phase two.

New lines to generate wealth

A feasibility study for a 772-kilometre high-speed line between Mumbai and Nagpur, the first phase of the Mumbai-Kolkata corridor, is the latest project that Ineco and Adif are carrying out for the Indian government. The study is part of the advisory services that Spain is providing to India in relation to its plan to develop an ambitious high-speed rail network (The Diamond Quadrilateral Project).

From Castilla to the Cantabrian Sea

Ineco has drafted the preliminary studies and projects and managed the works for the comprehensive renovation of this 217-kilometre historic line that crosses the Cantabrian Mountains. Built 150 years ago, it is still a vital corridor both for freight –especially vehicles manufactured in Castilla y León– and for rail passengers. The duplication of sections of track between Santander and Torrelavega, which is expected to start in 2019, will complete improvements in speed, safety, passenger comfort and freight capacity.

Round-trip energy

The installation of energy recovery units in traction substations on the conventional network enables surplus regenerative braking energy to be recovered and returned to the electrical grid, preventing dissipation in the form of heat in the braking resistors of the trains. Since 2010, Ineco has been developing a number of engineering projects for Adif to define and implement these units.

Next-generation transport

The Ministry of Public Works’ Innovation Plan represents a commitment to digitisation, energy efficiency and sustainability reflected in 70 specific initiatives that have undergone a period of public consultation. February 2018 will see the launch of a coordinated process to transform the Spanish transport system to provide a high degree of personalisation and efficiency spearheaded by new technologies.
